Y&R Celebrates Two Milestones

The Young and the Restless reached 1,000 consecutive weeks as the #1 rated daytime drama series against regular scheduled programming, according to Nielsen ratings for the week ending February 29, 2008. The streak began more than 19 years ago in December, 1988.

ALSO

The Young and the Restless will celebrate 35 years on the air on March 26, 2008. Y&R’s 35th anniversary storyline revolves around Restless Style Magazine, a print and Web-based magazine run by Nick and Phyllis Newman (Joshua Morrow and Michelle Stafford) and Jack and Sharon Abbott (Peter Bergman and Sharon Case). In the March 26 episode, a launch party is thrown by the magazine during which surprises occur, former favorites return and old rivalries are renewed. Fan favorite Michael Damian, who played Danny Romalotti from 1981-1990, 1993-1998 and 2002-2004, returns for several episodes, and actors Eileen Davidson and Lesli Kay cross over from sister show The Bold and the Beautiful as their characters attend the Restless Style party. Tatyana Ali appears as Roxanne, Patty Weaver appears as Gina Roma and Entertainment Tonight Correspondent Thea Andrews appears as herself.

CASTING NEWS: GL Star to Join AMC

OK, I must have been under a rock last week, because I just found out that Ricky Paull Goldin, who has portrayed Gus Aitoro on Guiding Light for the past 7 years, is leaving. And, to top it off, he is soap-jumping to All My Children, where he will be playing Jake Martin. Last we saw Jake, he was leaving for Kenya to go on a mission for Doctors Without Borders back in 2003.

Ricky is slated to start appearing in Pine Valley, and on your TV screens, sometime in April.

He expressed his sadness about leaving GL on his Web site: "My seven years on Guiding Light have been a wonderful experience. Now it's time for a new adventure, a new chapter in my life. I will especially miss working with Beth Ehlers (Harley Cooper), since it doesn't get any better than Gus and Harley."

Like you, I've been frustrated by your waning story line, they fact that your talents have been underused, and just the "can't choose between all these women" scenario that they had thrust at you. All the while, taking you away from your true soulmate, in my opinion, Harley.

Springfield certainly will miss you, but hopefully you'll have more to do over at AMC.

Kelly Ripa's "Mom" Returning to Daytime

Okay, that headline is a stretch, but I was feeling nostalgic. (Anyone else remember when Ripa first debuted as Hayley on All My Children with that hideous long, black wig??)

Olivia Birkelund, who once played Arlene Vaughan, Hayley's alcoholic mother and one of Adam Chandler's (David Canary) many ex-wives, is back, but in a new role. She's been cast on Guiding Light as Phoebe, a woman once scorned by Cyrus (Murray Bartlett), and Harley (Beth Ehlers) is not going to like what she has to say. Look for Birkelund to debut on March 11.

Hey, Kids, Rock 'n' Roll, Rock On!

Don't miss The Young and the Restless on March 18 and 19, because Michael Damian will be back in Genoa City as rockstar/heartthrob Danny Romalotti to help out with the launch of Restless Style magazine. Also, expect to see his son, Daniel, not so thrilled about his return.

To get you in the mood for his return, please watch the video posted below. You won't be disappointed.
