Cady McClain Returns to ATWT

It's official: Cady McClain is returning to As the World Turns as Rosanna beginning May 20. I hope she gets a juicy story line this time! What do you think?

Cady McClain Returns to All My Children

When Cady McClain exited from As the World Turns earlier than expected as Rosanna Cabot, AMC fans immediately speculated (and hoped) she would return as Dixie Martin. They're getting their wish this May.

As an angel, Dixie helps guide husband Tad (Michael E. Knight) toward discovering that their daughter Kate is actually Kathy, who has been living with Julia in Pine Valley all along.

McClain first airs May 2.

McClain's World Stops Spinning Early

First she was poisoned by pancakes, now (I'm assuming) she's going back into a coma? However the writers decide to conclude Rosanna's storyline on As the World Turns, Cady McClain is making an early exit, as explained on her blog: http://www.cadymcclain.com/blog/:

"I have sad news. TPTB are wrapping up the Rosanna storyline early. I was slated to work through February, but the story took a dramatic turn that will alter that plan. I have always been open to all possibilities, even this one, but I will be sad to have to say goodbye so soon.

Thanks for all your support during my brief return! Who knows where I shall land next. It’s gonna be an interesting 2008!
Love and gratitude always…
Cady"

Darnit! I was hoping to see her interact more with Scott Bryce (Craig) and would have loved to see her with Wally Kurth when he debuts soon on the soap. Hopefully another soap will snatch her up, or perhaps All My Children will make up for their mistake and resurrect her after her death at the hands of Aunt Jemima. See you soon somewhere, Cady!

THIS IS CINDY NOW:
OK, so this is weird that Dana mentions this, because it made me remember something that happened at Super Soap Weekend that I did not think anything of at the time. During the AMC talk show, they were all talking, having fun, and I can't remember the context of it, but someone mentioned Cady McClain out of the blue. It got quiet for a moment, and then someone changed the subject really fast. Could one of the actors almost have slipped up and mentioned that Cady was coming back to AMC? Did I happen to hear a "kinda" spoiler? I hope so! If she does come back to AMC soon, remember, you heard it HERE first!

Casting News!

First off, let me apologize for the scarcity of my posts this past week. I went on my first cruise last Friday through Monday, and have been spending the rest of the time playing "catch-up" at work.

Now, onto the exciting casting news!

I think someone at As the World Turns was reading our blog, because Cady McClain will be reprising her Emmy Award-winning role of Rosanna Cabot later this year. She made the announcement on her Web site: "I am returning to ATWT to play Rosanna Cabot, who will arise from her coma in Switzerland to what deeds we can only imagine. Who is she now?! What did she dream?! How is her hair?! I am very pleased to be returning, and I hope to have a lot of fun."

When I interviewed her last year (while she was on AMC), she spoke VERY fondly of her time on ATWT, and I had the feeling that she would jump at the chance to return if given the chance. Here's what Cady told me back in August 2006: “It was hard to be so mean (as Rosanna), but it was a great experience. I felt slightly stigmatized by the ‘Dixie’ character and stymied by what I was exploring. I wanted to prove I could play something entirely different and I did. I won a Daytime Emmy my third year playing Rosanna. That was very nice and extremely gratifying.”

I am very happy for Cady and wish her all the best in Oakdale. Maybe she'll give Craig Montgomery (newly re-cast Scott Bryce) a run for his money!

Also, as Days of Our Lives has been teasingly hinting to fans for months now, the DiMera's are back -- with a vengeance! Joseph Mascolo will be back starting June 6th to reprise his role of evil-doer Stefano DiMera. Although details of his contract have not been released, he is expected to appear at least through the summer.

AMC Head Writer Canned! Julia Barr to Return?

Effective immediately, ABC has confirmed that Megan McTavish has been fired as head writer of All My Children.

Fans will most likely be rejoicing, as many voiced outrage concerning several dark storylines that had been unfolding, as well as the recent killing off of fan-favorite Cady McClain (ex-Dixie) by the Satin Slayer.

Hopefully this will be a chance for AMC to get back to basics, and to reinvigorate its fan base, as well as the tired storylines. McTavish's ousting is also sparking rumors that Julia Barr (Brooke English) might be coming back this spring (after being unceremoniously dumped late last year after almost 30 years on the show).

As of this writing, ABC has not named McTavish's replacement.

Cady McClain Speaks Out

On her official Web site, Cady McClain (ex-Dixie, AMC) speaks out on her character's death, and the rumors that are swirling around her exit from AMC. Here is a snippet of her blog entry:

What happened EXACTLY when I was fired? (And let’s not mistake the fact that that is indeed what happened.)

I was told the following:

We know you haven’t been happy this year. (True, but I was making the adjustment, as I thought we all would.) We know you and Mike have had some tough times. (True, but we have been through worse, and ANYBODY who TRULY KNOWS US, knows I would be there for Mike in a goddamn second on a goddamn dime.)

Megan feels that everything that can be written for Tad and Dixie has been. It’s all been done before. (I thought, well, this may be true, but isn’t that a little … uncreative? Why ask someone to come back if you can’t think of anything to write for them?)

It is a mutual decision of Brian, Julie and Megan. I was told they all agreed on this decision.

She told me how nice I had been looking lately.

She told me she was very sorry.

I told her, well, I guess it’s for the best, I can audition again, and focus on my music, and I was really unhappy with what I felt was a lost morality on the show, but it was a BIG surprise that they would really KILL Dixie, and that I feel bad for the fans. What about all the Kate build-up? Where’s the happy ending?

I was told how the story would play out.

Look, it’s not my show. I really am only the actor. I don’t think they will ever bring me back, especially if they have removed the Dixie CHARACTER bio from the Web site. It’s over. It’s all done. AMC is going to become something totally different than it once was. It will be all new, all different. Why? I can only conjecture.
All this comes as a shock and a shame to me. I spoke with Cady last summer and she was so excited about Dixie's return and the possibilities involved. And now, it seems, AMC has let it all slip away. Whichever soap (if that is her chosen path) picks her up will benefit from AMC's mistake.
As the World Turns, are you listening? Rosanna Cabot is due for a return!
